What we do
We are a team of planning officers that manage the development and production of planning policy documents on behalf of the Council. The key document that the team are required to keep up to date is the Telford & Wrekin Local Plan. The team also produce supplementary planning guidance in areas such as heritage, climate change and housing which supports better more sustainable development across our Borough.
Other key roles of the team include recording progress of housing and employment development through the production of Annual Monitoring Reports, aiding Parish and Town Councils in the production of Neighbourhood Development Plans and liaison with other Local Planning Authorities and infrastructure providers.
How does this fit into the development process
The Local Plan sets out the parameters which the Council use to determine planning applications within the borough. The plan also sets out where new housing and employment development will go helping to provide certainty to the public and developers over a period up to 2040. The Plan also provides stakeholders, public sector agencies and utilities companies a long term planning horizon for growth in the borough which they can use as a basis for planning their services.
A project the team has recently been involved in
Review of the Telford & Wrekin Local Plan
The team are currently leading on a review of the Telford & Wrekin Local Plan. This is a complex process that involves reviewing and refreshing the development vision for the borough. Ensuring that policies are up to date, relevant and in line with the Governments National Planning Policy Framework.
The review also involves production of an extensive evidence base to support policy requirements and determine the level of need for new housing and employment development.
As part of meeting the development needs of the borough up to 2040 the team also engage with landowners to determine which site might be available and suitable to be allocated for development.
The work of the team and feedback from the public, stakeholders and developers will go to a Government appointed Planning Inspector for an independent examination process prior to adoption of the plan.
