What we do

Primarily we comment on planning applications, provide pre-application advice, and discharge planning conditions. We also write management plans for Local Nature Reserves and other greenspaces managed by the council, as well as advising on wider management of sites and protection of species. Declaring new Local Nature Reserves and identifying sites of ecological importance also falls within our responsibility, making sure that  these areas are protected and managed in the best way for nature. Writing and advising on council policy, including the Local Plan also forms a part of our role to protect the natural environment in the borough.

How does this fit into the development process?

From pre-application through to discharging conditions, we are involved in the planning process. Commenting on applications, advising on aspects such as design, layout and management of landscaping. We work closely with the planning officers and wider Development Management departments as well as other professional colleagues such as Architects and Surveyors to enable development to take place within the borough, whilst protecting and enhancing the natural environment.

A project our team has completed

In the past two years our team has processed the declaration of seven new Local Nature Reserves, protecting nearly 170 hectares of green space within Telford and Wrekin. Local Nature Reserve designation protects these sites from development impacts and highlights their importance to nature and for recreation.
