What we do
We are the Conservation specialists that look after the borough’s historic buildings, scheduled monuments, conservation areas, registered parks and gardens, and the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage site. We ensure that repairs and changes to historic buildings and historic areas are carried out in ways that best protect our heritage and retain its unique character and the stories it has to tell us about our past.
How does this fit into the development process?
We provide our specialist advice to the planning team, so that they can make informed decisions about what planning works should or shouldn’t be allowed to happen.
A project our team has completed
Restoration of the Museum of the Gorge
We have overseen the repairs to numerous nationally important buildings and memorials in the Ironbridge Gorge, including the Museum of the Gorge which serves as an information point for visitors to the Ironbridge Gorge. The pitched roof on the ‘Lady Chapel’ office was rebuilt and the whole roof repaired using historic photographs and clues from the building itself to tell us what materials, methods and designs were needed.
