Telford & Wrekin Council is dedicated to supporting local schools and supporting young people with their education.
As part of this commitment, we are supporting Ercall Wood Academy with their school expansion plans to cater for demand in that area, which could see an increase of up to 300 learners at the school (from 900 to 1200) in the coming years.
The project
This project is supported by a combination of S106 contributions, along with the trusts investment and support from Telford & Wrekin Council.
Ercall Wood Academy in Wellington is being expanded to create a new teaching block which includes:
ten science labs
science preparation rooms
storerooms
ancillary rooms
a standard classroom.
In addition, the school ground floor dining room is also being extended providing more space for learners during lunch and break times.
Telford & Wrekin Council approved plans for the proposals in 2023.
The school has a strong emphasis on sport so the extensions have been designed to minimise the loss of sports pitches.
Benefits
The expansion of Ercall Wood Academy will provide a number of benefits including:
meet the high demand for school places
increase of up to 300 students in the coming years
