Support for children who need it most over the summer holidays

Families with children who receive free school meals in Telford and Wrekin during term time will receive extra support to help with the cost of living over the coming summer holidays.

To support these families during the school summer break, Telford & Wrekin Council is providing over £646,000 in supermarket shopping vouchers that can be used for food either in store or online.

The council is providing £10 per child per week for the six-week school summer holidays, equalling £60 per child, for children who would usually be entitled to income-related free school meals or receive a pupil premium.

In total 10,768 children will benefit over the holidays, through the DWP’s Household Support Fund provided to local councils to use at their discretion to support households most in need.
