In 2018, Telford & Wrekin Councils’ Building Control team completed works as the building inspector for one of the biggest current construction projects in Telford, a multi storey Town Centre car park.

It was designed by architects Corstorphine + Wright and the contractor was Bourne Construction, specialists in car park design and build.

As the Building Inspectors for the £4million build, our Building Control Team ensured it met all the relevant building regulations from general construction compliance to fire safety and disabled access before it was signed off for completion.

Joe Strafford, Building Control Team Manager, said: “We were very pleased to be working on this prestigious building project that increased the parking space available for visitors to the Telford International Centre and other visitors to the town.

“Our role was to ensure the health and safety for people who will be using this car park and our inspectors made regular visitors throughout the construction to ensure that the stringent regulations that apply were met.

“As an organisation, we are used to dealing with contractors at all levels and applied our wealth of experience in the sector to this build.”

"Key issues to consider in this type of development include the fire escape, protected routes and widths, any unprotected boundary's, protection from falling, fire tender access, as well as its general compliance."
