The system we operate can be directly utilised by West Mercia Police, who can live view from Malinsgate Police Station at any given time to assist with their operational day to day working.
Our priorities
From a public welfare/security viewpoint, all our CCTV additions mirror our Priorities as follows.
Every child, young person and adult lives well in their community – A focus is always made by the Anti-Social Behaviour team to visit communities and consult with local Policing teams, Safer and Stronger Co-ordinators, local parishes and in some cases Councillor’s, who may have been approached by residents asking for CCTV. This is with the mindset new additions are in place to safeguard the community who understand the rationale for CCTV in their respective areas. For example, there has been a drive to install Solar CCTV cameras in and around play parks in the borough which adds an extra layer when safeguarding our children and our respective play equipment.
Everyone feels the benefit from a thriving economy – Shopkeepers, traders and businesses are also consulted where applicable to safeguard their premises. This is to essentially prevent, detect and reduce crime and disorder.
All neighbourhoods are a great place to live – This means they also must be safe. CCTV aids in creating safe and cohesive communities for all to work and live. CCTV can also be used to address several issues ranging from trying to reduce fly tipping (where those we catch are given Fixed Penalty Notices), dog fouling, Anti-Social behaviour right through to parking issues. New additions amongst others will have a positive impact on those who work, live, and visit specific parts of the borough, and play a significant role in creating cohesive communities and reducing the fear of crime.
Our natural environment is protected – we take a leading role in addressing the climate emergency – With a drive in the use of Solar CCTV cameras, we understand we must reduce our energy footprint and costs.
A community focused innovative council providing effective, efficient and quality services – We assist in third party claims by providing evidence/footage through a robust and transparent audit trail via our Freedom of Information (FOI) team.
Telford & Wrekin Council CCTV Requests
If you are requesting CCTV from us, please note there is a clear distinction in terms of what the Police and council deal with.
For theft or crime, you must contact West Mercia Police accordingly who will oversee their own CCTV downloads/investigations and be in touch with you with respect to the crime reference generated where applicable.
For third party claims (such as e.g. car insurance claims) a CCTV request as outlined by Freedom of information must be sent to: FOI@telford.gov.uk.
The FOI team will guide your insurer with the appropriate requirements. Please note: you will need to provide the following explaining your rationale on why your request is needed with respect to the Data Protection Act:
- any log or any appropriate reference
- the nature of incident ( including registration, colour and makes of vehicles)
- time and date
- area/camera location/ideally a map with an ‘x-marks the spot’ that can be placed on a mapping system.
Please note: as a local Authority, our additions are on our land (unless legal permission is sought from the landowner otherwise), and as our ‘camera(s)’, we work to guidelines set out with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and have our own Information Governance team to make sure we are working within the context of the most up-to date appropriate legislation.
