Reopening our high streets - high street events
Through our Pride in Our High Street programme, we’ve also invested in a series of successful events in high streets across the borough – bringing business owners, residents and local communities together.
Led by the council’s events team and through partnership working with town and parish councils, other local groups and with the help of volunteers, these events have transformed our high streets into a sea of colour and a hive of activity at different times of the year, to coincide with other local and national events.
These activities across our borough towns have led to a major increase in footfall to support our high streets – encouraging people to visit their local towns, shop locally and support businesses on their doorstep.
Events include the High Street celebrations, Telford Film Festival, Telford Theatre in the Park, the Ironbridge World Heritage Festival and Armed Forces Day.
Successful events have also helped to raise the profile of Telford and Wrekin as a great tourist destination and place to do business.
The feedback we’ve received from these events is really positive. Here are some of the comments:
“I went in to Oakengates with the family and the kids had a great time! Well done Telford & Wrekin Council for putting on these events.”
“Looks like everyone had an amazing time. You’ve put the smiles back on lots of faces.”
“Just wanted to say what a great day it was in Madeley and Wellington. All the planning and marketing was excellent and great to see so many people out and about happy.”
