Holyhead Road Junction improvements and retaining wall reconstruction
We are planning to install new traffic signals on Holyhead Road at the junction with Furnace Road to improve safety, along with resurfacing works to improve the condition of the highway. Repair works will be undertaken to the adjacent retaining wall to ensure long term stability of the road.
A programme consisting of Junction improvements and Retaining Wall Reconstruction is due to commence on Holyhead Road on 8 January 2024 to 29 March 2024 (24hr Road Closure). The work is, however, weather dependant and the programme dates shown may be subject to change.
The funding for the work has come from the Council’s highway capital programme as part of its ‘Pride in Our Community’ programme to make the borough a better place to live, work and visit.
The Project is being delivered by our principal contractor Balfour Beatty with sub-contractors for Resurfacing (Tarmac), Ironwork & Structures (G & N Groundworks), Traffic Management (Quantum) and lining (WJ UK).
Detailed works programme
- Road closures will be used at the site with appropriate diversion signage as this allows for works to be completed quickly, safely and efficiently and to minimise disruption.
- Site specific designs and diversion routes can be found below.
- Where closures are in force, a diversion will be signed on site.
- Advanced information signs will be placed on each site 2 weeks prior to works commencing.
Provisional dates
- Start date: 8 January 2024.
- End date: 29 March 2024.
