In 2022 Telford & Wrekin Council launched their Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP). As part of the council’s ongoing plan to improve provisions for pedestrians and cyclists across the borough, we are delivering a new and improved route on Station Road, Oakengates, funded by Active Travel England as part of their Active Travel Fund.
The site, from Uxacona Way to the Greyhound Roundabout, has been identified as phase 1 and is a suitable location for improved crossing points and the creation of shared routes to improve the safety of cyclists and vehicle users and to improve the connection with existing off highway route.
Once phase 1 of works has been completed a separate scheme will commence undertaking resurfacing works on Station Road up to Greyhound Roundabout to improve the existing road surface.
Plans showing the locations of both schemes can be viewed using the following links:

A second phase of improvement works for pedestrians and cyclists on the off-highway section of the route that connects Oakengates to Telford Central will commence upon completion of Phase 1. Further updates on this phase will be provided later in the year.
Phase 1 is already in progress which is a new off road cycle path and new parallel crossing points on Station Road.
Phase 2 will see improvements to the off highway section covering the Silkin Way footpath between Greyhound Roundabout and Rampart Way.
This planned work includes widening of footways/cycleways including light segregation, vegetation cut backs, surface improvements, rest stops and other general improvements. As part of phase upgrades to street lighting columns will also be installed.
