D-Day 80 Anniversary - Thursday 6 June 2024

This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France, which took place on 6 June 1944.

There are international, national and local events taking place to commemorate the anniversary and pay tribute to the many thousands of people that sacrificed so much in helping secure the freedom of our country.


What's on

6 June 2024

  • 8am Town Crier Proclamation - Wellington.
  • 6.30pm Ringing out for peace. Cathedrals and churches are being encouraged across the country to ring their bells at 6.30pm.
  • 9.15pm Light a Lamp of Peace. This is a chance for all to get involved by lighting a lamp at 9.15pm.
  • 9.15pm Beacons will be lit across the country and Southwater One will be lit up.

Around the borough:

  • Saturday 8 June 2024, 10am - 2pm - Madeley High Street Celebrations with live music stage, stalls and activities.
