General Election 2024

A general election will be held on Thursday 4 July 2024. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.

In Telford & Wrekin Council, voters will elect an MP for two Parliamentary constituencies:

  • Telford
  • The Wrekin.

Please note: due to boundary changes some people may vote in a different constituency for this election. Please make sure you check your poll card thoroughly.

Candidates

Details of who will be standing as candidates in each constituency will be published by no later than 5pm on Friday 7 June 2024.

Registering to vote

You must be registered to be able to vote in this election. The deadline for registering to vote is midnight on Tuesday 18 June 2024.

Voter ID

To vote at a polling station you must take an accepted form of photo ID to the polling station with you.

If you do not have any ID that is accepted, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC). The deadline to apply for a VAC is 5pm on Tuesday 26 June 2024.

Postal votes

The deadline for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024. Please note: due to the short timescale for this election to be held, if you live abroad, your postal vote may not arrive back with us in time to be counted. If you are living abroad, you might want to consider appointing a proxy (someone you trust) to vote on your behalf either in person or by post (see below for more information).

The deadline for applying for a proxy or a postal proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024.

Overseas voter registration

British and eligible Irish citizens living overseas can now register to vote in UK general elections no matter how long ago they left or were last registered. There’s no longer a 15-year limit.

They’ll be registered at the constituency where they were last registered to vote, or where they lived if they weren’t registered.
