In 2020, the government announced the launch of the Levelling Up Fund programme; a £4.8 billion programme to help communities to Level Up through investment in local infrastructure. The first round of funding supported £1.7 billion of projects in over 100 local areas across the UK.
In July 2022, the government launched Levelling Up Fund Round 2 and Local Authorities we invited to bid for a share of the funding in accordance with the objectives of the fund. View more information in the Levelling Up Fund Round 2: prospectus.
On 18 January 2023, Telford & Wrekin Council received the news that we were successful in securing £20 million to deliver our Broadening Aspirations through Education and Culture programme which will:
- remodel Telford Theatre in Oakengates
- create a new education centre in Telford Town Centre at Station Quarter.
