An inclusive library is one which is accessible and in which everyone feels welcome. We have a selection of resources to support our customers with additional needs and their families.

These books have been collected as a resource for families with children with additional needs. The list includes picture books and information books.
All books are located at Southwater Library and can be requested to your local library.

Bookstart SEND
Bookstart is a national programme that encourages parents and carers to enjoy books with their children from as early an age as possible. There are a variety of special educational needs and disability (SEND) packs available for children with additional needs.
Please note: all Bookstart packs are delivered through nursery settings.
Booktouch Baby (0 - 2 years) and Booktouch Toddler (3 - 5 years)
A free pack of books and guidance materials that aims to give a love of books to blind and partially sighted children.
Bookshine Baby (0 - 2 years) and Bookshine Toddler (3 - 5 years)
A free pack of books and guidance materials aiming to encourage a love of books in deaf children.
Bookstart Star (3 - 5 years)
A free pack of books for children with conditions affecting their fine motor skills.
Changing Place at Southwater Library
Changing Places are toilet facilities for children, young people and adults with profound or multiple disabilities, which are fitted with specialist equipment including a hoist and changing bench. They provide enough space for up to two carers to support the person with a disability to use the Changing Place.
The Changing Place is located on the ground floor of Southwater One and access is via radar key.
