Citizenship ceremonies

Many congratulations if you have received a letter confirming that you can attend a Citizenship ceremony with us! Well done to you all, we know how difficult this journey can be.

Group Citizenship ceremonies take place at Telford and Wrekin Register Office on a monthly basis. There is no charge for these.

Please only contact us after you have received a letter from the Home Office instructing you to book a ceremony.

Private ceremonies are available upon request – fees currently start from £95.

Customers would normally be expected to book their Citizenship ceremony within three months of being sent an invitation from the Home Office. Due to the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, UKVI have extended this period to six months and will keep this under constant review. Please note: citizens will have no adverse decisions made on their applications because of delays caused by Coronavirus.

  • As of the 30 November 2018, all local authorities ceased offering the Nationality Document Return Service.
  • As of the 31 December 2018, all local authorities ceased providing the Nationality Checking Service.

The new UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (VCAS)

From 9 November 2018, the majority of customers will need to complete their applications online and then attend one of 57 new Service Centres in the UK called 'UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services', managed by commercial partner Sopra Steria. Customers will attend an appointment at a Service Centre to submit their biometric information (photo and fingerprints) and supporting evidence (including proof of identity).

Assisted Digital Service

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) have set up an assisted digital support service that is available to customers who do not have the appropriate access, skills or confidence to complete an online application form. The Assisted Digital Service aims to ensure that nobody is excluded from making an immigration application due to a lack of digital skills or access to a computer. Eligible customers are offered telephone or face-to-face support at a library or in their home to help them access and complete the online form. Please note that this service does not provide immigration advice. For more information and contact details for the Assisted Digital Service:

  • Telephone: 03333 445675.
  • Text message: text the “VISA” to 07537 416944.
  • Email: visa@we-are-digital.co.uk (please include a telephone number you can be contacted on, if possible).

Visit the GOV.UK website for information about the Assisted Digital Service

Please note: customers will not be allowed to book appointments for any local authority service once they have applied online using the VCAS (FES) service.
