The Making It Real Board help to develop the future of Adult Social Care

How does the Making It Real Board Work?

Our Making It Real Board was set up in January 2018 and is made up of people who use adult services or who are interested in the development of Adult Social Care in Telford and Wrekin.

The Board works in co-production with council leaders, making recommendations on how different service areas can improve and develop, with the aim of seeing services progress towards more person-centred, community-based support.

Find out more about our approach to Co-production.

Making It Real is a set of co-produced statements that describe what good care and support looks like, organised into six themes.

These themes are aligned to the Care Act, and built in to the CQC Single Assessment Framework. You can view more information on the Making It Real themes and statements by visiting makingitreal.org.uk

Sarah Roberts... Why I joined the Making It Real Board

I joined the Making It Real Board in 2019, after my Social Worker told me it would be a great opportunity to help shape the future of social care and that the Board wanted to work with people with lived experience to ensure that they are heard and valued.

I’m now in the position of Co-Chair.

I have been able to learn about how Adults Social Care works and the processes that are in place.

I feel like I am actually being listened to, my opinions and thoughts are taken on board, and I am able to share my experiences, which also shows that each situation is unique to each individual.

I feel empowered and I understand my care and support package, I am engaged in changes and decisions. The decisions I make, no one tries to tell me I am wrong, and should be doing things a specific way. I feel like I am in charge and in control of my care.
