School roof stolen by thieves

Residents living close to a Newport school have been asked to be vigilant after part of a copper roof was stolen by thieves.

The theft of the copper roof from a classroom at Burton Borough School has been reported to the police.

School head teacher Dave Hill said: “this is obviously a major concern to us and the cost of replacement will be significant.

We want to flag the theft up so people who live close to the school are aware of the theft and keep their eyes peeled for any suspicious activity at the school, particularly during times when the school is closed.”

It is thought that the theft took place on Sunday night.
