The Wrekin has attracted walkers for centuries and this tradition is reflected in the number of local people and visitors who walk in the area today. Across the borough there are many walks giving access to a rich and varied mix of natural environments, geological features and industrial heritage.
A number of notable long distance routes pass through the borough including the Shropshire Way, Severn Way and Hope House Way. The Shropshire Way has recently been amended so as to pass through Wellington on its way to the Ercall Nature Reserve, the renowned Ercall Quarry and onwards over The Wrekin to Ironbridge and beyond.
Within Telford and Wrekin itself there are several cross-borough walks which often pass through smaller nature reserves and parks in which it is pleasant to walk:
- the Silkin Way links Tee Lake within the Dothill and Beanhill Valley to Apley Woods before heading south to Telford Town Park and the Severn Gorge
- the Hutchison Way links Newport to Wellington and passes through Granville Country Park on the way.
