Ironbridge Gorge Land Instability

These pages are to help residents who live in the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site understand and prepare for issues linked to land instability in the Gorge.

Landslips in the Gorge area are nothing new and have been happening for hundreds of years.

By 2016 Telford & Wrekin Council had spent more than £33 million tackling land instability issues. This has included the assessment and stabilising of sites in the Gorge most severely affected. This has been funded by contributions from the Council itself, other agencies and the European Regional Development Fund.

Monitoring is ongoing and the Council continues to lobby Government for further funding to progress the work to manage land instability in the Gorge.
